Lectures and events

Lectures are everything that takes place regularly, in the weekly schedule; events are one-off dates by mosques and trusted organisations, often with a flyer. Every entry shows when it was last confirmed.

You know that I know that 13:00 can sometimes be a squeeze.

Friday, work, uni or school, and the prayer at 13:00 is out of reach. That is exactly why every mosque in Austria is listed here with its time, the khutbah language and the date of the last confirmation, from the earliest to the latest time, so you can find the one that fits your day.

For that we need you, for ten seconds: if a time is still right, tap “Still correct”. If it has changed, suggest the new one. A code from your e-mail is enough; you don't need an account.

How the data stays current

Four levels, from the strongest source to the oldest confirmation. Next to every time you can see which level it is on right now.

  1. Level 1: Prayer-times service

Mawaqit or Masjidbox, named as the source with a link, at most 7 days old.

Confirmed 2 days ago · Source: Mawaqit
  2. Level 2: Trust code

A trusted person adds or confirms the time with their trust code.

Confirmed 5 days ago by a trusted person
  3. Level 3: Two confirmations by e-mail

Two people with a verified e-mail address confirm the time independently of each other, both within 30 days.

Confirmed 5 days ago by 2 people via e-mail
  4. Level 4: Older than 30 days

The time is then marked “unconfirmed”, stays visible and asks to be confirmed.

    Unconfirmed for 41 days

I've always been looking for an overview like this. I used to have to dig laboriously through the Google reviews of the mosques to find the Friday prayer times, or ask friends. May Allah ﷻ reward you abundantly for this website.

  • Abdullah N.

For several years now I've regularly checked freitagsgebet.com to find mosques near me or mosques with suitable Jumʿa prayer times. Thanks to this great service, I've been able to attend many Jumʿa prayers even when I thought I wouldn't make it in time. May ALLAH reward the team abundantly.

Frequently asked questions

Answers about times, khutbah languages and events, and about how the data is confirmed and kept current.

White bowl with a cobalt-blue rosette, a wreath of scrollwork and a rim of cloud bands.
Is the time shown the start of the khutbah or of the prayer?

The time is the start of the khutbah (sermon), as the mosque states it. The prayer usually follows 10 to 45 minutes later. If a mosque holds more than one Friday prayer, all start times are listed with the mosque.

Where do the times come from, and how current are they?

Every time shows its source: confirmed through a publicly accessible prayer-times service (Mawaqit or Masjidbox, named with a link), by a trusted person, or by visitors who have confirmed their e-mail address. Next to each time you can see when it was last confirmed. If a confirmation is older than 30 days, we say so openly.

A time is no longer correct. What can I do?

Open the mosque in the list of its state and tap “Change”. After a quick confirmation of your e-mail address you can suggest a new time; it is shown as soon as others confirm it too. If the time is still right, a tap on “Still correct” helps everyone who comes after you.

You can submit a missing lecture or talk under Lectures and an event under Events; the entry appears once a trusted person has checked it. If something about a lecture is wrong, write to us via Contact.

A mosque is missing. How does it get onto the site?

At the end of every state list you will find “Is a mosque missing?”. After verification you can enter its name and address; the admin checks the entry before it appears.

Why are there summer and winter times?

Many mosques time the Friday prayer by midday and switch with the clock change (last Sunday in March and in October). We always show the time of the current season and say whether it has been confirmed since the change.

Can women attend the Friday prayer?

That depends on the mosque. Many mosques have an area for women, but not always at the Friday prayer. Where we know there is a women's area at the Friday prayer, the list of its state shows “Women's area” next to the mosque. If you are unsure, call the mosque.

You will find lectures for sisters and children under Lectures for women and children. If a lecture names no audience, it is meant for everyone.

What language is the khutbah in?

The language is shown next to each time. Some mosques hold the khutbah in two languages, or in a different language for each session. If the language is missing, we are glad if you add it via “Change”.

For lectures, the language of instruction is shown on the entry; under Lectures you can filter by language.

How do I find a mosque near me that fits my schedule?

Choose your state and look through the list for a mosque that fits your schedule; the late sessions are at the top. With the filter “Prayer from 14:00” you see only mosques with later sessions.

Do the lectures cost anything?

Most lectures are free. If you need to register or pay, the lecture says so.

How current are the lectures?

Every lecture shows a confirmation date, for example “confirmed 5 days ago by a trusted person”. If the confirmation is older than 30 days, it says so. If a lecture has an end date that has passed, it stays visible with the note “expired” until a trusted person confirms it again. When in doubt, a quick question to the mosque is worth it.

How authentic are the lectures?

We list lectures that take place in mosques, and we keep an eye on them ourselves. Still, the mosque in question is responsible for the content and the teachers; if you have questions about them, please contact the mosque directly. More in the disclaimer (German).

Which topics and sciences are taught?

From Qur’an, Tajwid and Tafsir to Hadith, Aqida and Adab and the Arabic language, plus lectures just for children. The topic is in the title of the lecture, with the language of instruction next to it.

Which mosques hold lectures?

Some mosques offer lectures. Which ones, and when, you can see under Lectures: everything that takes place regularly is there. One-off dates are listed under Events.

Are there lectures only in Vienna?

No. Lectures take place in mosques all over Austria. Under Lectures you can filter by state; if your mosque's lectures are missing, write to us via the contact page.
